The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Thursday rose by over 68 points in early trade on buying in bluechips, led by Larsen & Toubro and Reliance Industries.
The 30-share index, which had closed flat in the previous session, gained another 68.73 points, or 0.38 per cent, to 17,824.67 points.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also moved up by 20.30 points to 5,343.45 points.
Brokers attributed rise stock prices to covering-up of pending short positions by speculators.
Besides, a better trend on the other Asian bourses also supported the upside, they said.
