Concerned over the prevalent rate of malnutrition among women and children in the country, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has constituted a special panel to monitor the implementation of schemes pertaining to these fields.The panel headed by the Prime Minister has Union Ministers Arjun Singh (HRD), Sharad Pawar (Agriculture), Anmbumani Ramadoss (Health) and Renuka Choudhury (Women and Child Development) and MP Sachin Pilot as its members among others.
The panel will provide directions and monitor functioning of schemes like ICDS and NRHM which are constituted to keep a check on the rise of malnutritioned mothers and children in the country.
Singh, who will review the functioning of the panel on a quarterly basis, can summon any member of the panel and ask him about the functioning of schemes, sources said.
Despite increased budgetary allocation, India has still the largest number of malnutritioned mothers and children. (NZ-11/11)
