The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Goa will host the 54th National School Games football and taekwondo championship from 1st November at the Nehru Stadium in Margao.The six-day event will see around 2000 participants from more than 17 states.
Talking to reporters, Goa's Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Susan D'souza said, "Since every state has to organise one event every year, we have decided to conduct football and taekwondo after successfully conducting swimming, baseball event earlier where our boys and girls have brought laurel for the state."
"Earlier, the department conducted three phase camps of two months duration and we are looking to win the championship in football as we have good talent. The tough competition will come form states of eastern India like Manipur," he added.
Looking at the Games, Susan said three boys from the state have been selected in the list of 25 probables for the U-18 Asian School Football championship to be held at Zhushi in China from November 17th to 27th.
