India will play their second Nehru Cup football match against Kyrgyzstan on Sunday -- a day after it's originally scheduled date -- as heavy rains forced the postponement of Friday’s Lebanon-Sri Lanka match to Saturday.
The pitch at Ambedkar Stadium was covered with poodles of water after the heavy downpour and tournament organisers decided to postpone the match to Saturday.
All the fixtures drawn earlier will be revised and pushed further by a day which means the final round-robin match will be played on 29th August instead of 28th August.
However, there will be no change on the date of final match which will be on 31st August.
India, who are without any point after losing 0-1 to Lebanon in their first match on Wednesday, will have to win against Kyrgyzstan if they want to remain on course to defend their title which they won in 2007.
Meanwhile, injuries continue to plague the Indian team as central defender Anwar is still uncertain to play against Kyrgyzstan.
Coach Bob Houghton said after a brief team training session before the heavy downpour at a city college ground that Anwar will not play against Kyrgyzstan if the match is to be played on Saturday.
Anwar is carrying a right thigh bruise which he sustained during the Lebanon match, and team sources said his availability for the match against Kyrgyzstan will be taken on Saturday.
Houghton though gave a good news that striker Sunil Chhetri, who had a long lay-off due to an ankle injury but played for 45 minutes against Lebanon, will meet Kyrgyzstan.
The India coach had said after the Lebanon match that since Chhetri was just coming back from injury his condition would be monitored after every match.
