Controversies continue to surround Hockey India (HI) and in a yet another major setback to the beleaguered body, its secretary general Mohammad Aslam Khan has tendered his resignation and 20th November will be his last day in office.
Aslam Khan, who was appointed as the secretary general by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in June this year, was on temporary basis until the Hockey India elections, which have now been postponed.
International Hockey Federation's (FIH) observer Tony von Ondarza is in the Capital and will hold a meeting with the HI but it has been confirmed that Aslam Khan will skip the meeting.
Sources within the Hockey India have confirmed that Aslam Khan was not happy with the way things were heading and has finally decided to put in his pares.
''He was working on temporary basis for last six months and since there is no official confirmation about the dates for the elections, he has decided to part ways,'' a source told UNI.
''He will not be attending tomorrow's meeting and will not be working any more beyond 20th November,'' he added.
In a couple of days, Aslam is expected to make an official announcement about his future course of action.
Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi and Bengal Hockey Association (BHA) president JB Roy have decided to join hands.
A meeting is reportedly scheduled for 19th November in the Capital which would be attended by 19 state associations who are affiliated to HI.
''This shouldn't surprise many, who know what has been going on within the Indian hockey,'' the source added.
However, he added that despite the power struggle within the HI, India will not be stripped off its hosting rights of the next year's World Cup.
