Azam Khan, who had given evidence in the killing of Tulsiram Prajapati - an eyewitness to the alleged staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh - was injured after he was shot at by unknown assailants in Rajasthan's Udaipur city Tuesday, police said. He has been hospitalised and his condition is stable.
'Unknown assailants on motorcycles shot at Khan at Udaysagar area at around 7 p.m. Khan sustained injuries in his right palm. He has been hospitalised and his condition is stable,' Udaipur's Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kumar Narzari said.
The assailants fled after the attack, he said. Udaysagar is about 10 km from the city.
Narzari said police had set up barricades and checkposts in an around Udaipur to nab the assailants. However, no arrests had been made yet.
Prajapati was killed in an alleged staged shoot-out in Gujarat's Banaskantha district 28th Dec, 2006 - over a year after Sohrabuddin was killed on the outskirts of Ahmedabad 26th Nov, 2005.
