Oxfam asks Israel to stop air strikes on Gaza

E-mail Print PDF
An international aid organisation has asked Israel to stop air strikes on Gaza, saying they have left many areas in the city without basic amenities and are hampering the flow of essential services by global agencies.

Oxfam, a group of non-governmental organisations working worldwide to fight poverty and injustice, said the bombing has severely reduced its ability to provide aid to Gaza Strip at a time when humanitarian crisis looms.

In a statement, it called on world leaders to take all necessary steps to stop attacks by all parties and push Israel to continuously open all crossing points into Gaza.

Unless Israelis stop bombing and allow immediate access for aid shipments, Gaza will face a major humanitarian crisis, it warned.

The number of causalities, the agency says, has completely overwhelmed the "already severely limited health services" in Gaza.

All hospitals are running out of basic supplies.

Oxfam has already been forced to temporarily suspend most of its humanitarian work in Gaza because of the bombing, and a programme which will feed 25,000 people has also been put on hold.
